Gunawan Blues

=================================================

Chismosa 2: About kay pareng Erning?

Chismosa 1: Ay hindi, lumang issue na yun. Yung about sa Gangnam Style na kanta...

Chismosa 3: Ay mare marunong na akong sumayaw nyan. Gusto mong sample?

Chismosa 2: Me too!

Chismosa 2&3: Weh? Talaga? Di nga?

Chismosa 1: Google nyo kaya?  *walk-out*
=================================================
Kiddo 1: Si Enchong bading daw?

Kiddo 2: Ay talaga? Kalerky naman.

Kiddo 1: Uu, hush lang teh. Closet kasi.

Kiddo 2: Wala na, end of the world na talaga. Tege na beauty naten!
=================================================

Pause, pause, pause! Seryoso?

=================================================

Tabian: You mean like salbabida, food, shelter, clothing and stuffs like that? *conyo*

Nieco: Huh? As if maliligatas lahat noh?

Tabian: Yun pala eh, syempre wa choice teh.

Tabian: At bakit?

Wahahaha!

Tabian: Tengene! At pano naman kung ako nakasurvive? Ano ibibilin mo sakin?

Nieco: Syempre madami, yung napanalonan kung ref.

Tabian: Yun lang?

Nieco: Wait there's more...syempre sabi ko madami diba? Yung mga utang ko! Wahahaha

Tabian: Wahahaha, punyeta ka, animal!!! Wahahahaha

*Yes ganyan kami magusap*

Nieco: Saka na nga lang, planuhin nalang naten yung "End of the world" day.

Tabian: Wow! Papapartey tayo?

Nieco: Nomon!

Tabian: As if di ka tatakbo? Epis nga eh parang sinilaban na yang pwet mo. Wahahaha

Nieco: Baliw! Hindi, di tayo sasabay sa mga magpapanic by that time.

Tabian: Wow! Umeemo? Heavy ha, iyakan portion na 'to teh? Eh paano ka?

Nieco: Syempre may pasok tayo nyan.

Tabian: Ah oo, wala pa nga namang memo sa "End of the World" day. 'No plano mo?

Nieco: Natin dapat! Magiinoman tayo habang yung iba nagtatakbuhan at nagpapanic.

Hello!

Of countless cigarette sticks, in between gulps of beer, drenched tissue papers, and dried out tears

Our memories were a part of it
On every glimpse of morning dawn until the sun sets, you linger
There was you
There was me
But no more us

***********************************

Nakanang!

In short kapaan sa bagong support. Susme!
  • No Beer...for now! Malakas kasi magpalaki ng tyanibells yun so off limits muna. (Halatang tumador)
  • May bago kaming na discover na beach at naeexcite akong bumalik over there.
Subtle way of saying ang Negra mo na. Pero kebs, ang kulay kong itey eh patunay akoy isang sarena *insert song here*
  • Gusto ko na ulit gumala! As in, parang nakaka-adik.
Aja!

Byaheng Norte Chronicles - Pagudpud | Part 2

The morning after our northbound Pagudpud tour we woke up early to discover Saud Beach. The so-called Boracay of the North. Compared to Blue Lagoon, Saud was calmer and clearer. It reminded me of my favorite beach getaway in Bantayan Island

A long stretch of white sand beach, clear water, and my two piece bikini, I say is a perfect combination. Of course the bikini part was a joke.

As we were basking by the shore, a few local kids arrived. Shyly they were looking at us while they played by the beach. I noticed the youngest among them, he was smiling at me, so I approached him.
Boy: *insert subtitle here* (nilublob ang mukha sa buhangin)
Me: Ayush yan boy ah. Ma try nga. (lublob sa buhangin ang mukha) :)

"trying hard sand angel"

We laughed at each others faces and they didn't even hesitate to smile to the camera. Despite the language barrier, we knew that we had something in common - the love for the Beach. The fun was cut short since we need to be back at the homestay by 9 am to meet up Kuya Arnel, and go on with the tour. So we bid our goodbyes to them, which in return they did as well with a whole lot of smiles.
When we arrived back at the homestay Ate Cathy already prepared our breakfast. Rice, scrambled eggs, instant pancit canton (which we purchased the day before) and the Vigan longganiza. Yes, you read it right that was our breakfast. Patay gutom lang? Kaing walang bukas - Breakfast edition. Sorry I don't have pictures of which though, I was too hungry and had to dig in right away. Walang keme keme, lafang kung lafang. Nyahaha!

After the sumptuous meal we had to pack up for yet another adventure. This time we went down south of Ilocos.

"A view of Bangui Windmills from Saud Beach"

From afar I was already amazed by the windmills, but when I was already where they were standing, I was dumbfounded.

"Gigantic electric fan"

I think humongous was an understatement, but they were a beauty. You can hear them spinning as the wind from the South China Sea blew. Had this strange imagination that any moment those windmills would fall on me, but then again that was just me being morbid. Haha!

"Like a Boss!:{
There was this one windmill that stopped turning, so I asked Kuya Arnel if that was broke. Apparently when the windmills are fully charged (or naka quota na ng ikot, as I understood) it would just stop turning. I wanted to stay longer and stare at them all day, but time was ticking and we needed to get going.

Our next stop was Kapupurawan Rock Formation.

It seemed like a rooster's comb. Two kids acted as our tour guide to get us to the said rock formation. It was not quite a walk in the park though since tirik na tirik ang araw. Ang jinit! There's actually horse rides available, but we opted to walk since we're on a tight budget. Nonetheless, it was a site not to miss.
The word "kapurpurawan" means "Kaputi putian" or whiteness in Ilokano

The kids were running along the grooves, holes and curves like it was their playground. As for us...Yes, we were holding on, to our dear lives.

"Kapit men, kapit!"
I think the sun melted our brains because we were goofing around the whole time we were there.

"ang jinit talaga!"
After we fried our brain cells from the heat, we went on to visit another must see place which was Cape Bojeador or Burgos Lighthouse.

"Faro de Cabo Bojeador"

We were very eager to go up top but they locked out the lighthouse for some reason.

Anyways, the structure was already a view in itself. I personally love the red brick walls, washed out paints, and slabs of wood that witnessed the test of time.

Sadly this was our last stop for Pagudpud

We decided to do a DIY tour in Laoag, it turned out that the places that we wanted to visit was far apart. Kuya  Arnel being so bait, offered and gave a contact to help us out, he also suggested a cheap and cozy place to stay.

It felt comforting having Kuya Arnel around, the stories/blog entries about him was all true. He even extended help when we're already in Laoag and Vigan
Now that's another story to tell on the next post. ;)

Kuya Arnel and Tabian aka fan girl
As we rode the the bus for Laoag it dawned on me that it was parting time already, it felt bittersweet, but I promised myself to come back.

**********************************************************************
And off we were to another adventure!

Gaano man kahirap ay patuloy parin...

Byaheng Norte Chronicles - Pagudpud

It started with an idea to try travelling solo, but I guess that was too abrupt of a decision. So I dragged a willingly able friend/barkadude for a duo backpacking trip, and the Byaheng Norte "Ilocos Adventure" conspired. Booked tickets for Manila, applied and approved leaves, prepared the budget, and research, research, research.
With full on excitement, we braved Manila for our side-trip.  We had the whole day to spare before heading on to Laoag, so we walked the streets of Intramuros, Rizal Park and Binondo. With our loaded backpacks we dared to commute Manila, and boy that was a challenge. Note to self: Travel Light!
When the night came to board the bus to Laoag we were dead tired. Good thing we took the sleeper bus and was seated at the back. Amazing how they constructed the bus with double -decks and how you can recline your back up to 60 degrees. Of course being luckily seated at the back we got the luxury to recline it all the way. Jackpot!

Time check: 10 PM. I pulled my sleeping bag and off I went to Lala Land. It was a snooze feast indeed for me and my travel buddy.

"semi-alive pa..."
Come morning I awoke with the rice fields of the North, it was such a sight to behold. I knew we're almost there, or so I think. I woke Pia (my travel bud) up, "malapit na tayo", I mumbled. With her half-awake-half-asleep self she took a quick peak at the window. "Batac pa 'to", and I raised the loser signed on my forehead.Haha
I guess I was too excited to get off the bus and start the adventure. I waited for a few more minutes and we arrived our destination - Laoag.

From Laoag terminal we rode a tricycle to the nearest terminal for Pagudpud. I think we were too early since there was no bus yet. We waited for quite some time, as giddy as I was, Pia decided to call up Kuya Arnel (our tour guide in Pagudpud) for an alternative ride from Laoag, he then suggested to go for the van since it would save us some time waiting. Without hesitations we walked a few blocks from the bus to the van terminal. We hopped on to the van and quick enough (like 1 and 1/2+ hours) we arrived in Pagudpud.

"On the way to Pagudpud"
We were greeted by Kuya Arnel. Deep inside I was ecstatic. Reading about him, and now finally meeting him in person was like meeting a celebrity. Fan girl lang ang peg?!
Beforehand, we told him that we didn't have any reservations yet for Pagudpud. So he gave us options as to where to stay. We went to Saud beach and there were a lot of home stays and resorts to choose from. I then asked him about Cathy's Home stay (which I read from my research). He lead us to the said homestay, which was a few steps away from the first option.  We settled and got a room for 800 Php/day, fair and cheap enough, considering that the beach is just a few walk away. After a quick shower fix and stuffed ourselves with brunch we head on with our tour.

"Hello from Pagudpud!"
Kuya Arnel opted to start us with North bound destinations. First stop was Kabigan Falls. We had to get a guide for 100  Php and 10 Php entrance fee. Our guide gave us a heads up that before reaching the falls we need to trek. In my head I knew it was going to be a long walk considering the word TREK, true enough it was indeed a long walk but the sights on the way was amazing. A sea of clouds, blue skies, vast green, and mountains. It was a different scenery from the city, it came to me that I was really on vacation. Yeahbah!  After maybe a 25+ mins we reached the great Kabigan Falls. I am always in awe with falls and this was one of those moments where you can stare at its wonder.

"pagod ka na teh?"
The urge to go for a swim was inevitable, we had to submit. Our guide said that the water is cold and it would relax us after the long walk. True enough, cool nga! We can stay there for a long period but since we need to see other places, so off we left.

"Oh yeah baby!"

"Uhaw teh?"

"I'm sexy and I know right!"

Second stop was Patapat Viaduct. One of the highlights when you go north of Pagudpud. Curiosity hit me and I asked Kuya Arnel why it was called Patapat. He made kwento that before the viaduct was built they only had a one way road, to and fro, the road will accomodate 4 vehicles. "Apat, apat lang na sasakyan", he said. That's where they got the name Patapat. O diba?

"Patapat Viaduct"

"Kuya Arnel umeemo?"

Third stop was Paraiso ni Anton. There was a grotto and a flowing water located along the highway. I dared to drink from the flowing water, parang nasa ref ang lamig ng tubig. Pawi uhaw! Fortunately I didn't get any diarrhea, so it's either the water is clean/pure or I happened to have a stainless steel sikmura. LOL

"Paraiso ni Anton"

We made a quick fourth stop at the Agua Grande. Nothing much to see though but flowing water and tons of rocks.

On our Fifth and sixth stop we went to Timangtang Rock and Bantay Abot Cave. Because I was curious (for crying out loud, I am always), I asked Kuya Arnel why it was called Timangtang (because I was thinking that the rock was timang? LOL). It's because the old people saw the rock shaped like a bell, bells that sounded like "ting-tang". Basta ganun yung pagka explain nya. Hehe

"Timangtang Rock"

"We climbed Timangtang para konting exercise"

"Bantay Abot Cave"

For our seventh and final stop was Blue Lagoon and Dos Hermanos Island. Pia and I were all hyped up since base on our research, on a good weather you can surf at Blue Lagoon. When we arrived there, unfortunately the waves were not enough for long neither short rides. Big sighs from the both of us, but to no avail we are beach bums, make use of what is there. Bira! We played with the waves, sun bathed and chilled.

"Blue Lagoon"

"Dos Hermanos"
Time Check: 6 PM. After we had our fill with the sun, sand and sea, we went back to Saud and call it a day.

"A sight of Bangui windmills from Saud"

"Wagas"

And To cap off, we were greeted by Saud Beach's sunset.  Hamazement!
